WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLING IN KIGOMA

Kigoma is one of the most poverty-affected regions in Tanzania with a high rate of unemployment among the youth and limited access to jobs. This factor pushes young people to move to Dar es Salaam in order to find a job and earn money.

The small-scale waste management project is implemented by Africraft in partnership with the Pentecostal Church in Kigoma and the local NGO (Future Generation Care) with the aim of tackling unemployment by enabling young people to carry out waste collection and save the environment by subsequently transforming waste into products that are useful in everyday life.

  • Providing working means for waste collection and processing in order to create employment and income for the youth in Kigoma town
  • Procurement of equipment and tools for the collection of waste and its subsequent processing
  • Training of the youth in waste collection and its recycling into useful products
  • Setting up of a marketing and sales system in order to create income

As a social organization AfriCraft wants to offer its services beyond the urban area of Dar es Salaam also to remote areas where the average income is low due to limited means of work opportunities and employment thus to ease the effects of poverty in these disadvantaged areas by providing training on waste management and recycling we want to offer means of income generation to disadvantaged young people in a time of economic hardship we want to contribute to a cleaner environment in Kigoma town by waste collection and provision of a second life to the trash.
